Thomas Tuchel has been taken off Chelsea's managerial seat after a frustrating defeat against Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb in their first Champions League group stage match.

"On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, the club would like to place on record its gratitude to Thomas and his staff for all their efforts during their time with the club," a statement from Chelsea football club announces.

"Thomas will rightly have a place in Chelsea's history after winning the Champions League, the Super Cup, and Club World Cup in his time here.

"As the new ownership group reaches 100 days since taking over the club, and as it continues its hard work to take the club forward, the new owners believe it is the right time to make this transition."

The defeat against the Purgeri last night compounded Thomas Tuchel's horrible start to the season, losing three games in his last six games, which might have cost him his position.

Following Thomas Tuchel's departure from Stamford Bridge, an unusual comment about Chelsea's new owner, Todd Boehly, from the German tactician has resurfaced, in which he claimed to be teaching them how to run a football club.

"They have never owned a football club," Tuchel said when asked about his working relationship with the new owner in August.

When asked if he was teaching them how to run Chelsea, Tuchel replied, "I try to, but don't tell them that."

Tuchel's departure comes just weeks after his comments and after his 100th game as Chelsea manager, in which he conceded 53 goals in his last 50 games, far more than the 24 goals he conceded in his first 50, according to Sky Sports statistics.

Despite signing several quality players this summer to bolster his squad following the departure of Antonio Rüdiger, Andreas Christensen, and Timo Werner, Thomas Tuchel could not get his team firing instantly, conceding 10 goals in their last six games.

The 49-year-old, who was appointed under the era of former owner Roman Abramovich, leaves Stamford Bridge with his name written in Chelsea history after winning the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup.

This weekend, Chelsea will travel to Craven Cottage for their seventh Premier League match to face Fulham United, but they will have to play the game without a manager, as confirmed by the club.

Brighton manager Graham Potter, former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino, and Zinedine Zidane are among the top contenders for the job. According to Sky Sports, Todd Boehly is set to meet Graham Potter for an interview after receiving permission from the Premier League club.
